This past weekend Miami Beach welcomed thousands of spectators to the Miami Beach Polo World Cup. This annual tournament included a luxury filled four days under the Oceanside tents with polo matches viewed from VIP lounges, post match after parties, and gourmet cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

The competition took place ocean side just steps from the luxurious Setai Hotel & Resort between 21st and 22nd Street. The event was highly competitive with exciting play from the world’s best polo players including England’s Jamie Morrison, Holland’s Vincent Mesker, Guille Usandizaga, a recent Miami Beach and Chicago Beach Polo winner, and Luis Escobar, 2009 MVP. Guests were entertained after tournament play with event-themed soirees and dinners.

The world’s largest and most prestigious tournament started on Thursday April 25th with the South Beach Women’s Polo Cup V followed by the Miami Beach Polo World Cup IX Kick-Off Party. The tournament continued on Friday and Saturday with the Miami Beach Polo World Cup IX and Fashion Show by La Martina. On Sunday April 28th, the tournament was concluded with the Miami Beach Polo World Cup IX Final Play-Offs, Finals, and a Farewell Party.

John Gobin impressed the audience with his victory in the finals and was also awarded the tournament’s Most Valuable Player Award for the second time since winning it in 2009. Raleigh/Comcast, Gobin’s team, won with a 12-10 victory over La Martina on Sunday April 28th at the Miami Beach Polo World Cup. Gobin said, “It was a great game, a fun game that was played clean and fast and I think the crowd loved it.” The four days were filled with a lot of excitement for all of the participants as well as the viewers!
